Fort Lauderdale, Broward EMA
Ryan White Part A
With a population of more than 1.8 million, Broward County is Florida’s second largest metropolitan area. It has grown by more than 40% since 1990 and has become increasingly diverse, with substantial growth among racial and ethnic minorities. According to 2007 US Census estimates, 30% of residents are foreign-born, a higher rate than found in Florida or any other state. The EMA provides a highly accessible, culturally sensitive, expert HIV continuum of medical and social care to its diverse population through a highly coordinated system of planning, financing, and service delivery. In FY 2007, more than 7,000 clients received some or all Part A core medical services. The Fort Lauderdale/ Broward County EMA has received Ryan White CARE Act funding for more than a decade.
