Competency Restoration
The Forensic Reintegration Team has also been involved with Competency Restoration
Training for clients who have been deemed incompetent to proceed by the court.
The law dictates that the persons must be mentally competent before they can stand
trial for their offenses. Competency must be restored before criminal proceedings
may resume. Court evaluators determine if they are incompetent. It is more expensive
to maintain Incompetent To Proceed individuals in a State Forensic Hospital .
