Creation
Health Planning Agencies were created under Florida Statute 408.033. The Broward Regional Health Planning Council, Inc., one of eleven Health Councils throughout the state, was incorporated in 1982 as a private not-for-profit 501(c)3.
Mission
Broward Regional Health Planning Council, Inc., a non-profit private organization, is committed to delivering health and human service innovations at the national, state and local level through planning, development, implementation, evaluation and organizational capacity building.
Responsibilities
Under Florida Statute the Broward Regional Health Planning Council has the following mandated activities:
Develop a District Health Plan.
Promote public awareness of community health needs.
Collect data and conduct analyses and studies related to health care needs of the district, including the needs of medically indigent persons and assist the agency and other state agencies in carrying out data collection activities.
Monitor the onsite construction progress, if any, of certificate of need approved projects and report council findings to the Agency for Health Care Administration.
Advise and assist Regional Planning Councils with the development of the health element of the Comprehensive Regional Strategic Plan to address the health goals and policies in the State Comprehensive Plan.
Advise and assist local governments on the development of an optional plan element of the Comprehensive Plan provided in Chapter 163 to assure compatibility with the health goals and policies in the State Comprehensive Plan, and the District Health Plan.
Provide technical assistance and staff support as appropriate and participate in the activities of other health planning organizations.
Pursue planning, coordinating, evaluating, capacity building, technical assistance and service activities in furtherance of Council’s mission as well as in support Council’s sustainability and growth opportunities.
